GICLEE ON CANVAS
The core of the art presented by Marilart publishing, is the culmination of twenty five years of refining a selected collection of imagery along with the ability to reproduce those works in a medium that comes as close to the real thing, a true "painting" on canvas, as possible.
Each limited edition 'giclee' (pronounced jhee-clay) reproduction on canvas, is enhanced and signed by the artist. No two reproductions, just as with the original paintings will ever be identical, and all are painstakingly re-worked in the artist's studio, one at a time.
The modern giclee process, has made this level of fine art reproduction possible. Unlike traditional press run reproductions on paper, the new digitally driven giclee process offers the artist a unique opportunity to fine tune every area of the reproduction before final printing. Additionally, the new medium allows for reproduction on canvas, a Marilart printing decision made with the artist, to even further approach the 'look, feel and texture' of an original work of art.
Literally translated, "giclee" means to "spray". When applied to fine art reproduction, it refers to any process which re-creates imagery by spraying the inks, dyes or pigments onto canvas or paper. As a new process in fine art reproduction, there are many levels of quality and many emerging variations on this theme. Prints off of a good quality desktop ink jet printer, could be referred to as a "giclee" reproduction.
The final product offered by Marilart, represents years of researching, testing and proofing to achieve the highest quality fine art reproduction. And the process doesn't end. As new inks, new canvases and new programming evolve, working with the artist, the quality of the art work we offer will evolve as well. The best measure is to compare. The differences are obvious and coupled with the artist's final re-working, they become remarkable.
The giclee on canvas reproduction, each 'hand worked' by the artist, will never be offered in open-ended or print runs numbering in the thousands. The nature of this type of fine art reproduction will not allow for that type of wholesale reproduction. Each print is best thought of, as a painting whereby the first step, or 'under painting' is accomplished mechanically, and then to bring it to life, to truly make it a painting still requires the artist's touch, care and finishing, which results in that special 'one of a kind' piece, so unique to every true work of art.
